Sustainable packaging in the beverage industry is a mission not only possible, but also necessary.
"Most of my fellow students went to other cities or abroad, and I think, apparently, it's my karma that all the jobs I had to do are related to Kaunas", - laughs the general manager of the historic brewery Wolfs Engelman.
The packaging waste management organization VšĮ "Gamtos ateitis" has launched a new initiative that will encourage Lithuanian manufacturers and importers to use more environmentally friendly product packaging, share good practices and strengthen the dissemination of ecological initiatives in Lithuanian business and society.

Reducing the carbon footprint of the value chain:

We will reduce the use of electricity and energy resources:
– Reduction of electricity consumption 5%;
– Reduction of steam (gas) consumption 7% 2030;

– We will reduce the use of plastic consumption by 10% in 2030 (2015-2020 plastic consumption reduced by 25%)
– We will increase the use of recycled raw materials in packaging:
> 30% recycled PET packaging by 2030;
> 30% use of recycled “multipack” film by 2025;
> 50% recycled packaging materials by 2030;
– We will reduce water use: 3 l per litre produced savings of 5% (2015-2020 water consumption reduced by 19% ) Introduce integrated water resources management at all levels by 2030, water use in re-technical processes. Acquisition of water-saving equipment (new bottle washing equipment, brewhouse line), office water-saving.
– Priority for local suppliers and partners is at least 50% 2025 (needs Olvi Group commitment).
– To take part in Green Dot and Package Deposit organizations initiatives to ensure EU circular economy targets: 92 percent PET assembled; 100 percent collection and recycling of industrial waste; reusable packaging- glass bottles > 95%; plastic crates > 95%; pallets
– To ensure collection and reuse / recycling of operational waste 99% – sale of spent grain, sale of spent yeast; collection and recycling of packaging waste; disposal of other industrial waste; evaporation collection – use for heating.
– Use 100% recycled paper in our offices.

– We will promote responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages: 1 corporate advertising campaign per year from 2022.
